His wife states he had been having increasing difficulty ambulating because of his bad knees”. You have just changed the surgical dressing as ordered and find the sutures line to be intact, erythema and edema around the wound, and a moderate amount of yellow foul- smelling drainage. He complains of pain at the surgical site (8/10). Vital signs: 134/88, 105, 24, 101.8F The patient has orders to sit in a chair and ambulate with assistance but he prefers to stay in bed.
