Assessment Details / Tasks
You are required to consider the strategic plan of two different organisations, one of which is a
Secondary College, to complete several analysis tasks. At the end of the assignment are listed the
possible choices. You must select one organisation from group 1, and one from group 2, to do the
work of this assignment. No other organisation is allowed to be chosen.
You must not select organisations that you have used in any other assignment (for this or any
other course in your degree or past studies).
Read your selected strategic plan (or the relevant portions if it is part of a larger document), and
then complete the following tasks in Microsoft Word.
Please do not write an essay. Just answer the tasks by doing the activities described.
1. Describe the current state of the selected organisations
For each of the selected organisations, describe the current state in no more than 400 words (not
including headings) for each organisation.
You need to describe these things:
Name of the organisation
Description of what the organisation’s purpose is / what sector they operate in – i.e. what
is the organisation’s main reason for existing? [1 marks each org]
What the organisation does or what services or products they currently provide
[2 marks each org]
How the organisation is currently structured – what sorts of staff roles and/or departments
are there? What sort of physical presence does it have? [1 mark each org]

Describe any technology they currently have/use or are likely to have/use and explain the
ways that it is being used. [2 marks each]
Describe briefly any other organisations they have relationships or dependencies with,
and state the nature of that relationship (e.g. financial, supplier, other obligations, etc.)
[2 marks each]
Attempt to identify any factors in the external environment (e.g. PESTLE factors) that may
affect the organisation to achieve its strategy. [2 marks each]
2. Complete a Business Model Canvas for the two organisations.
For each of the two organisations, create a Business Model Canvas. [4 marks each org]
Please use the template provided in Week 2.
Make sure you produce your Business Model Canvas based on the current states of each
You may use information from external sources, such as the news media, the organisation’s
website or reports, to help you gain further information to support your analysis, however you
MUST reference all such information clearly in your report in a Bibliography section.
Some strategic plans you find, may not provide enough information to be able to clearly address
all the requirements of this assessment. If you cannot identify the appropriate information for a
particular requirement, you need to document this shortcoming in your report as a deficiency in
the strategic plan.
You may then be able to fill, or partially fill, some of the gap through additional research which
must be referenced. You will not be penalised for missing information if you follow this guidance.
Your report must provide a link (URL) to the online version of the strategic plan and any other
resources you accessed for information to inform your work, so that any person reviewing your
report is able to access the sources to confirm.
Your completed assignment work is to be uploaded to the submission link in Moodle, which will
submit your work to Turn-it-in for plagiarism checking. Only one file is permitted for your
submission (saved as either a .doc, .docx or .pdf format file), as your completed work should
contain all information.
Before you can submit your work, you must complete the online Declaration Agreement, to certify
that the work is your own work. Once you have completed that, the link for you to submit the work
will become available. Please make sure you read the content of the Declaration Agreement before
you complete it.
Late submissions will have a penalty of 10% of the available marks deducted for each day
(or part of day) that it is late, in accordance with the policy of the School of Engineering, IT and
For example, if you submit 30 hours late, this is more than 1 day but less than 2 days, so a penalty
10 marks (2 x 5 marks) out of 50 will be deducted from what your work is worth. If you have a
legitimate reason why you won’t be able to submit on time, you must request an extension from
your lecturer in advance of the due date, by submitting the relevant documentation.

The final 2 marks are for correct referencing of all sources used (including any strategic or
corporate plan for the organisation).
Feedback will be provided within three weeks of the due date, or the date of submitting your
assignment (whichever is the later). Feedback will be in the form of a completed marking guide
available in Moodle; there may also be remarks on your assignment submission itself. Marks will
also be uploaded into fdlGrades.
Plagiarism is the presentation of the expressed thought or work of another person as though it is
your own without properly acknowledging that person. It is not acceptable for you to use the same
sentence structure that an original source has used – you cannot just change occasional words,
but rather you should think about the meaning of the sentence, and think about how you could
express it in a fresh way that makes sense to the context you want to use it in. Otherwise, if you
need to keep the same words, you must use talking marks around the copied parts “like this”, and
after the talking marks ended you need to provide a citation of where it has come from.
You must not allow other students to copy your work and must take care to safeguard against this
More information about the plagiarism policy and procedure for the university can be found at
The work you submit must be the result of your own thinking and working.
