PowerPoint Lesson 2: Part 4 (Inserting & Editing Text)
Please Note: This session builds on, and assumes that you have completed, the previous PowerPoint sessions. If that is not the case, please go back and complete them before returning to this session.
STEP 1: Opening a Presentation
You should by now have at least one or more saved PowerPoint presentations. Select one and double-click it to launch it in PowerPoint. I will use the following presentation:
STEP 2: Editing Existing Text
The easiest way to modify the text on a slide (as shown previously) is simply to click in an existing text box and edit the words manually:
If you highlight the text with your mouse, a pop-up menu appears which allows you to make the text bold, italics, larger, smaller, a different font, colour etc. – just like in MS Word.
I now have:
AssignmentTutorOnline
You can do this to text on any slide.
STEP 3: Adding New Text
You can also add completely new text fields and lots of other symbols at will. Select the INSERT menu item, then ‘Shapes’. Choose the Text Box (with an ‘A’ in a box).
We cover these shapes & symbols in the next session.
Click this icon once and then move your mouse pointer over onto the slide and let go of the mouse button. An editable text box will then appear on the slide – which you can drag around with the mouse.
Position it exactly where you want the text to appear.
Then click on the box and enter your text.
When happy, ‘click away’ from the box (just click somewhere else on the slide) and the text is finished and will look like:
That completes this session.
Now your turn…
Practice Tasks
Launch an existing PowerPoint presentation (double-click it).
Go back and edit the existing text – change font, size, colour, bold, italics etc.
