Application of the unit:
This unit describes the performance outcomes, skills and knowledge required to comply with laws and licensing requirements for specific business operations. It requires the ability to access and interpret regulatory information, determine scope of compliance, and develop, implement and continuously review and update policies and practices for business compliance.
The unit applies to regulatory requirements for day-to-day business operations in all tourism, travel, hospitality and event sectors and to special requirements for one-off events.
It applies to senior personnel who operate independently or with limited guidance from others and who are responsible for making a range of operational business and regulatory compliance decisions.
No occupational licensing, certification or specific legislative requirements apply to this unit at the time of publication.

Self-Paced Learning:
Self-paced learning meaning outside the classroom you need to spend your time to complete your assessment task or any homework (if) given by your trainer/assessor. It’s means student can start planning and complete there require learning which unit of competency/Skilled Up targets at the time of student stay with Skilled Up. The self-paced learning model will allow student to control their learning outside classroom environment. They can complete their formative assessment task in any setting, at home or anyplace. Learners who work at a fast pace have the opportunity to gain competency quickly by submitting their work, the self-paced learning also help student who are slow learner. At their own time student, able to complete the task and manage their learning if they need more time to complete the assessment task. Skilled Up will provide extra academic support, if student struggling in their academic during the term.
Academic Support:
Skilled Up provides academic support for all students who are struggling to achieve the required skills and knowledge. The following academic support is offered to all students but not limited to:
- Referencing
- Reasonable adjustment
- Student at risk, who not able to achieve the competency in the unit
- Workshop/Tutorials on assessments
- Catching up their re-assessments work.
LLN Support:
At Skilled Up trainers/assessor will provides additional language, literacy and numeracy support for those having difficulties with their LLN. This support is provided in addition to the current study load of the student.
Assessment Overview
Purpose of Assessment:
To evaluate the candidate’s ability to demonstrate the knowledge and skill It requires the ability to access and interpret regulatory information, determine scope of compliance, and develop, implement and continuously review and update policies and practices for business compliance.
Assessments is the process of gathering and judging evidence in order to decide whether have achieved a standard or objective and it is a competency-based assessment. The competency-based assessment is the method of gathering and judging of evidence in order to decide whether you achieved a standard of competency.
Successfully completion of assessments will contribute to the attainment of the following unit of competency:
- SITXGLC001 Research and comply with regulatory requirements in SIT50416-Diploma of Hospitality Management
Competency/Submission Details:
For you to achieve competency in this unit, you are required to complete the following tasks and submit on the due date specified in your Training Plans. You must achieve satisfactory ratings on all tasks.

To complete the unit requirements safely and effectively, the individual must:
- Legal responsibilities and liabilities of managers and directors in varying business structures
- Sources of information and advice on regulatory compliance
- Functions and general operating procedures of regulatory authorities of particular relevance to the tourism, hospitality and events industries
- Methods of receiving updated information on laws and licensing requirements
- Use of policies and procedures in managing regulatory compliance
- Formats for and inclusions in policies and procedures
- Objectives and primary components of local, state, territory and commonwealth government laws to which all types of businesses must comply and that cover
- Objectives and primary components of laws, codes, standards and licensing requirements that impact on specific operators in the tourism, hospitality and event industries; chosen to be applicable to the individual’s context
- For each relevant law, code, standard and licensing requirement, the depth of knowledge must cover
- Opportunities to maintain knowledge of regulatory requirements
Performance Evidence:
Evidence of the ability to complete tasks outlined:
- Access and interpret regulatory information and determine the scope of compliance for the operations of a specific tourism, travel, hospitality or events business in relation to at least six different areas of compliance
- Develop policies and procedures for legal compliance with each of the above areas of compliance
- Integrate into compliance planning activities and documentation:
- Sources of detailed information and advice on regulatory compliance
- Objectives and primary components of a broad range of local, state, territory and commonwealth government laws relevant to the specific to the business operations
- Use of policies and procedures in managing regulatory compliance.

Assessments
There are three (3) assessments for this unit of competency. You are required to complete them all.
- Written Question
- You will be allowed 5 to 3.5hours for completion of the written questions; simulated environment scenario is provided.
- Report
- The Assignment requires you to answer all questions on research and comply with the regulatory requirements. Trainers must ensure all aspects of the assessment are up to industry standard. Trainers must ensure students do this within appropriate timeframes which the trainer will set. No assessment will be accepted not submitted by the due date. You MUST write the answer in the form of report to your manager
- Assessment Activity
- This consists of 8 short assessment activity questions. All questions must be answered to be deemed satisfactory.
You will be allowed 2 hours for completion. Your trainer will mark the test using model answers.
